Quick Navigation
COPE-Compliant Publication Ethics
This journal follows the Core Practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
Ethical Statement
Peusijuek Journal of Islamic Culture and Ethics is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. This statement is based on COPE's Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
The journal adheres strictly to the COPE Code of Conduct and follows the COPE Flowcharts for resolving cases of suspected misconduct. All parties involved in the publishing process (editors, authors, reviewers, and publishers) are expected to adhere to these ethical standards.
Ethical Standards
Commitment: This journal commits to COPE principles and follows COPE guidelines in all editorial processes.
Responsibilities of Editors
Editorial Decisions
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for deciding which articles submitted to the journal should be published. Decisions are based on:
- The article's importance, originality, and clarity
- The study's validity and its relevance to the journal's scope
- Peer reviewers' evaluations
- Legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism
Editorial Standards
Editors evaluate manuscripts based on intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and publisher.
Editors will recuse themselves from considering manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with authors.
Ethical Issues Handling
Editors take reasonably responsive measures when ethical concerns are raised with regard to a submitted or published manuscript. Every reported act of unethical publishing behavior will be investigated, even if it is discovered years after publication.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and may assist authors in improving their manuscripts. Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or cannot provide timely assessment should notify the editor and excuse themselves.
Reviewer Standards
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
Reviewers should complete reviews within the agreed timeframe. If additional time is needed, reviewers should inform the editor promptly.
Ethical Obligations
- Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited
- Reviewers should alert editors to any substantial similarity between the manuscript and other published works
- Reviewers should not use unpublished materials disclosed in submitted manuscripts without written consent
- Reviewers with conflicts of interest should decline review or disclose them to the editor
Policies and Procedures
Allegations of Misconduct
The journal follows COPE guidelines when dealing with allegations of misconduct. This includes:
- Prompt investigation of allegations
- Fair treatment of all parties involved
- Confidentiality during investigation
- Appropriate corrective actions if misconduct is confirmed
- Documentation of all actions taken
Retraction and Correction Policy
Retraction Criteria
Articles may be retracted when there is clear evidence of: fraudulent data, plagiarism, unethical research, errors that affect conclusions, or duplicate publication.
Errors that do not affect conclusions may be corrected through an erratum or corrigendum.
The journal may publish an expression of concern while an investigation is ongoing.
Authors may appeal editorial decisions by contacting the Editor-in-Chief with a detailed justification.
Complaints Procedure
Complaints about the journal's processes, editorial decisions, or ethical concerns should be directed to the Editor-in-Chief. All complaints will be:
- Acknowledged within 7 working days
- Investigated thoroughly and fairly
- Resolved as promptly as possible
- Documented with appropriate corrective actions
Research Ethics Compliance
Human and Animal Subjects
Ethical Approval Requirements
For studies involving human subjects, authors must include a statement that the research was approved by an appropriate ethics committee. For animal studies, authors must confirm compliance with relevant institutional and national guidelines.
Informed Consent
Manuscripts reporting studies involving human participants must include a statement confirming:
- Informed consent was obtained from all participants
- The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki
- Privacy rights were observed
- For vulnerable populations, additional safeguards were implemented
Data Privacy
Authors must ensure that personal information about research participants is appropriately anonymized. Images of identifiable individuals require explicit consent for publication.
AI Use Policy
Based on International Standards for Artificial Intelligence Use
Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation
Basic Principle: The use of AI tools (such as ChatGPT, GPT-4, Claude, etc.) in manuscript preparation must be disclosed transparently and does not replace the intellectual responsibility of authors.
AI Use Rules:
- Mandatory Transparency: Authors must disclose the use of AI tools in the "Acknowledgments" or "Methods" section of the manuscript
- Author Responsibility: Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of content generated with AI assistance
- Content Verification: All AI outputs must be critically verified and validated by human authors
- Citation and Reference: If AI is used to generate specific content, an explanation of the prompts and tools used must be included
AI and Authorship
AI Cannot Be an Author
Based on ICMJE standards: AI tools do not meet the criteria for authorship because they cannot be held accountable for the accuracy and integrity of scientific work.
Only humans can meet the 4 authorship criteria: substantial contribution, drafting the manuscript, final approval, and accountability.
AI can be acknowledged in the "Acknowledgments" section with a specific description of its role.
Use of AI in Research Methods
If AI is used as part of the research methodology (e.g., for data analysis, modeling, or processing), authors must:
Describe in detail the algorithms, parameters, and AI implementation used
Provide sufficient code, training data, and parameters for research reproducibility
Report validation methods and limitations of AI-generated results
Ethical Considerations in AI Use
Ethical Aspects to Consider:
- Algorithmic Bias: Acknowledge and discuss potential biases in the AI models used
- Data Privacy: Ensure training data does not violate privacy or intellectual property rights
- Transparency: Disclose limitations and uncertainties in AI-generated results
- Accountability: Human authors remain fully responsible for all aspects of the scientific work
AI Use Disclosure Template:
In Manuscript Preparation:
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [AI Tool Name] for [specific purpose, e.g., brainstorming ideas, language editing, or formatting]. All intellectual content has been reviewed and validated by the author(s)."
In Research Methodology:
"This research used [AI Model/Algorithm Name] for [specific purpose]. Implementation and parameters are described in the Methods section. The author(s) are fully responsible for the interpretation and validation of the results."
This policy follows Imperium Research Institute's standards for AI use in scientific publishing and will be updated in accordance with developments in AI ethics standards in scientific publishing.
